It was my privilege to attend the Philippines Consumer Electronics Live show for 2009 here in Manila on Friday the 13th of November 2009.I only became aware of the show a few days before when by chance I purchased a copy of the local entrepreneur magazine and there was a full page adds there for the show in a couple of days.
Special thanks to “JayJay” one of the organizers who arranged for me to have access to the VIP area which was very much appreciated.
I explored the show and found it to be a great venue for exploring the next generation of electronics due dawn on us in Manila.
Everyone involved from Summit Mediathe shows organizer were very professional and dedicated to the success of the show. One of the unique things about this show and perhaps upcoming shows was that this was a “purchasing show” meaning that the attendees had the ability to not only see the latest electronics but also to purchase them at up to a 70% discount right at the show.
On the green side of things there were numerous vendors of home appliance’s that were sportingthe energy star rating as well as other efficiency ratings.
One item of particular interest to me was the “E-Jeepney” , basically an electric powered version of the most popular means of public transport, the venerable Philippine “Jeepney” which is a specially build extended Jeep, that has an extended passenger are where the back seats would be in a jeep. All Jeepneys are currently Diesel powered and for some unknown reason most seem to lack any sort of muffer and seem to be unbound by the nations traffic laws, and some say by even the laws of nature :-) They are however the most common and cost effective form of public transport around the Philippines probably only second to the tricycle in the provinces.

(check out the show gallery below for more pictures)
The e-jeep costs P650,000. It uses 12 6V 220AH batteries, which charge for eight hours at a cost of P150, says John Marasigan, PhUV assistant sales manager for electric vehicles. A fully charged e-jeep has a maximum range of 55-65 km and a top speed of 35 kph. ( would recommend they look into adding the ability to swap battery packs like the E-taxi’s in India, so that drivers can work as longas they need to make a livingjust by stopping at a depot and paying for a charged battery to be dropped in, also the addition of a small 50cc gas generator for emergency charging of the batteries will help prevent stranded electric vehicles on the roads)
Thirty-five units of this 14-seater have so far been sold to a number of government and private institutions in the Philippines, 20 of which are in Makati, says Marasigan. They include De La Salle University in Dasmariñas, Cavite; Plantation Bay Resort in Cebu; the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas in Manila; the House of Representatives in Quezon City; and Embarcadero waterfront development in Legazpi City.

The show also featured a lot of custom cars including the new 2010 Chevy Camaro, a Custom Hummer 2, and even an airplane !
The cars for the most part were either the latest standard model or a heavily customized “car show” type car, you will find photos of them in the show gallery below.
I also produced a nice compilation of the photos into a music video of sorts, the songs played in the video are the actual songs played during the modeling show.
I hope you enjoyed that.
In all respects it was a great show and I look forward to covering it next year.
